Day Three - Motivation, Renewal and Commitment
Wed, 09 Sep 2009
We began the day with a time of worship which was described as "massive corporate engagement with the living God which set the context for the whole day" by Fiona Gifford of the International DTS Center.
We danced as we sang songs of trust and expressed our love to God. We took time to respond to the issues of Justice as we watched a DVD on Human trafficking and we carried out in prayer for God’s justice.
The signing of the Jubilee Covenant was a significant part of this historic day. As we went forward continent by continent to sign the covenant God spoke and reaffirmed his purposes for each continent and their role in the mission. Seminars in the afternoon deeply challenged many of us on a very personal level related to both our own walk with God and the ministry and calling he has entrusted to us.
At dinner the dining room became as giant dance party led by a group of Zimbabwean musicians - people put down their dinner plates to dance - african style!
The evening session began with a jubilant time of worship and dancing. Many individuals came forward to share what God has been speaking to them over the past few days. This led into a time of deep intercession on behalf of the nation of Zimbabwe, with different people groups both asking forgiveness and speaking forgiveness out on behalf of those who have caused pain. God led us to take up an offering for the YWAMers who are currently ministering within Zimbabwe. The Holy Spirit led us as we looked back into the history of YWAM in the continent of Africa and what that means for it’s future.
After the evening session a late night concert took place in the dining room; including poetry, storytelling, an African Drum Story, Traditional African Praise and Zimbabwean music.
God moved in power, spoke with clarity and this day has marked us forever.
Personal Perspectives:
"This morning while we were signing the Jubilee Covenant i feel like God called me into missions, I don't know what this will look like yet, just that this will be something significant. The Jubilee Covenant was a landmark, serious thing. God calling us into deeper relationship, deep commitment. It is the start of something new, deep commitment with him. Deeper following." - Lauren, South African, School of Music in Mission Student
"Care is prevention. As we care we are preventing the spread - so that will be what i will tell all the people. It is not outside of us, it is within us, within our family. We either have infected people, or affected people. Care is prevention. For me i feel, we in YWAM, we are presented with many opportunities to disciple a nation. We are reversing the devils intentions, bringing life to a community of people. All the issues we are fighting: poverty, trafficking, wars - whatever you think of - they carry alongside them HIV - they promote the spread. We have the opportunity to engage in these issues and brings Gods intentions against the devils intentions. The strategy God has given to us in Uganda is not place children in institutional locations, but to place them in families. We wanted to see an example of an integrated community response." - Sam Kisolo, Uganda (Bringing Hope to Communities Affected by HIV/AIDS Seminar)
"This seminar has given me hope. They talked about their students and how they train them, the professionalism. I have faith for what God will use me in in the future. Having the opportunity to know different kinds of people you can met people who can encourage you - to me this is the best thing you can have." - Bismark, Ghana (College of Communication Seminar)
"It comes back to having faith that God is faithful to fulfill his word. As a YWAMer, it's trusting God when he speaks that he is faithful to his word, because of what God is. He is very much interested in our personal lives, but also in our ministry. Letting go of things so that we can move into the anointing that God is wanting us to walk in. If we always hold on, we aren't fully trusting God to lead us. Wholeheartedly trust and have faith. If we want to see lasting fruit, then we need to die to our old self to allow new life to grow."
